Preparation day. Briefing about the Greenlandic Shark Challenge adventure and a guided town tour in the town of Uummannaq.
 
The Greenland Shark Challenge adventure starts after the morning buffet at Uummannaq Hotel and ends late afternoon. You will be transported by local fishermen/hunters to different fishing grounds in the area by dogsled/snowmobiles.

The last day of the Greenland Shark Challenge. Prize dinner in the evening at the hotel for this weeks shark anglers.
 
Spare day in case of bad ice fishing weather during the challenge. Time for relaxation, a dog sledge tour to a settlement in the area or halibut or redfish icefishing on your own
 
Departure in the morning
 
Hotel Uummannaq is a modern, attractively situated with panoramic views across the ice fjord. Accommodation will be in single or double rooms with full board.
 
The fishing event takes place in the beautiful arctic winter in March, framed by the stunning arctic nature scenery of Uummannaq. You will be fishing from the ice and on dog sledge or snow mobile skilled local hunters and fishermen will bring you to the hot spots where the sharks reside deep under the ice. On the selected spots the sharks are pre-fed rubby-dubby style well in advance before the arrival of the visiting anglers which undoubtedly will attract sharks to the carefully selected fishing areas.
 
The following is recommended as a minimum:

• Breathable (Gore-Tex-like) wind-tight warm jacket and over trousers with good freedom of movement.
• A good fleece jacket, warm, light and breathable.
• Heat-insulating thermal underwear/long johns underneath over trousers.
• Survival suit, e.g. Helly Hansen, Mustang Survival or alike
• Sports underclothes, which draw perspiration away from the skin and allow it to evaporate.
• Warm hat with ear flaps (a good fleece hat can be bought at the hotel).
• Gloves.
• Scarf.
• Strong sunglasses.
• Strong sun cream, min. factor 20.
• Footwear with thermal insulation.
• Warm socks.

Warm and comfortable sealskin suits and greenlandic sealskin-topped boots can be hired at the hotel (these should be reserved in advance). The clothes are not suitable for hauling in the sharks, as the fight may last several hours. Uummannaq is a hunting district and the shops/stores have a sensible range of solid winter clothes, but no fishing equipment is sold.
 
Companions not sharkangling are welcome too. A special programme will be set up for with dogsledgetours, visits to settlements, visit to Santa Claus Cottage, guided city tour, museums visit and other exiting activities.
 
There are no banks in Uummannaq. Your Visa card, "Dankort" card or Eurocard can be used in the town. GSM telephones can be used.
